Dog Shaming: How I Got a New Mani Lamp

My mani set up is pretty simple - a table and a lamp. I use a tiny recycled wooden portable table covered with a glass cutting board. I used to just use the wooden surface but nail polish, thinner, and acetone spilled overtime has caused a lot of damage. When I saw a glass cutting board at Target, I thought it would be the perfect solution to the table’s damaged, scratchy surface. The lamp was given to me by my Mom. It was a pretty expensive desk touch lamp that she bought for me at Costco. She meant for me to use it in college, for studying and such. When I started doing my nails, I took it off my desk and put it on my little table. It was great light-wise, using a bright four prong bulb. But it was heavy, clunky and difficult to maneuver.

So, there I was with my mani set up, sitting on the couch, in front of the television. And Roy, our beloved, very clumsy Welsh corgi, was sitting under the table. He needs constant pets and becomes very distressed when he isn’t being actively loved. Since I was doing my nails, I was not paying attention to Roy. He started whining, as if to say, “give me pets now please.” We’re still not quite sure what happened next, but in our attempt to reconstruct the events that followed we determined that Roy, noticing that I had been unmoved by his whines for affection, decided to take matters into his own hands. We think he was trying to get onto my lap. Roy jumped, hitting his head underneath the table, catapulting it, and everything on it, over. He immediately ran away in fear and hid under the bed.

Edited Roy and Lamp

I tried to take one of those dog shaming photos but the marker I used wasn’t dark enough lol.

Needless to say, the light bulb shattered into a million pieces. The day this happened, I was trying to get some swatching done and it made me really frustrated. I started stomping around the house angrily, complaining about Roy’s love-me-now tyranny. Both dogs and my husband felt my wrath. After I took an anger nap and was able to behave rationally again, I decided to go out and try to buy a new bulb. But the fall damaged the actual lamp as well and the new bulb we bought didn’t work. It was a comedy of errors because my husband, convinced that the lamp still worked, kept trying to jimmy the bulb until it, too, shattered all over. Finally, we gave up and went out again, this time to buy a new lamp.

Lamps

I bought this lamp at Staples for $37.99. I’m pretty happy with it so far – it uses the same 4 prong bulb as the old lamp so I get the same amount of lighting. It’s very light and doesn’t take up much space so it’s great for my small mani table. It’s also easy to adjust and move unlike my old lamp. The new one has been knocked over by Roy a few times already, since it’s lighter than the old one, it falls without breaking. In the end, I guess it’s okay that Roy’s clumsy need for constant love resulted in the death of my old lamp because I ended up with a better one. (But I think I would have liked to have saved the $40 bucks.)

Do your pets ever interfere with your polishing? : P

awwww the poor boy, hehehe he just needed attention, mine slap me with his paws when he don’t get the amount and length attention he desires.

what doe he have on his nose is a white thing

hopefully you wont stay mad at him, and you can get another lamp , soon

Yay for a new better lamp! Boo for having to buy that instead of a bunch of fun things like makeup and polish. My dog has a way of ruining my manis too, though inadvertantly. He is a long haired plush coated German Shepherd and being in an apartment no matter what I do (brushing, combing, and sweeping, vacuuming) his hair still finds it’s way into odd places. So yeah sometimes I will find a hair on my polish brush and it gets in my mani and then I have to try to pick it out.

Hahahaha! Oh that picture/note! Oh Roy, you silly boy! My dogs interfere with EVERYTHING! But we can never stay mad at them for long, haha! :)

My cats always hop onto the table for snuggles when I paint my nails so I am forever trying to pick cat hair off my wet nails.

I love your Corgi!!!! That picture of his innocent little “Who? Me?” face is priceless. As I sit at my computer now, my kitty, Sady, is supervising me. Sometimes she’s good and sits in her “kitt in box” other times she’s up in my face wanting to know why I am not looking at her or wreaking havoc. Thems the breaks with house pets, I guess. Gotta love them!

I’m working on a post tonight that has a picture of my cat interfering with my swatching. He likes to head butt my hand when I’m taking pictures of it. I often get pictures with an ear here or a nose there. He’s special.

  7. Deborah Says:

The constantly interfere because those stupid cats always want to be as close as possible ;). Until the sniffle some polish and realize they hate the smell.

I have to laugh at the image of a Corgi trying to jump up on your lap and hitting his head. Poor guy!

My damn cat ALWAYS has to be in my lap, so when I’m doing my nails (which by the way, my setup is really, really simple….I sit on the floor in front of the couch with our coffee table in front of me, I’ve ALWAYS painted my nails this way since I was a kid!). My cat literally sits in my lap when I have my knees to my chest. I know your asing yourself how my cat sits in that little space between my chest and the tops of my knees….but he does. He squeezes himself in there!

Roy is adorable!!!! Naughty, but adorable. I have a sweet/naughty chihuahua who thinks he is entitled to continuous human affection, regardless of the circumstances. He occasionally tries to crawl in my lap while I’m polishing, but I work over a counter so he can’t knock it over! Normally he eventually either gives up and snuggles with my husband or, if he isn’t available, retreats to his blanket on the couch.

Awww, but look at the face on that little derp! (I say this probably because I don’t have one of my own.)

  11. Sarah Says:

ahh, your corgi is adorable! mine has calmed down a bit since his “OMG NEED ATTENTION NOW” phase, but my doberman has quickly picked up the habit. ><

  12. Patricia Says:

Oh my Lord! I just found out you’re baaaaack!! Yippee!! I was afraid you were gone forever! (forgive me for finding out a ‘few months’ after the fact). No I’m not a mama to any pets (*sniff*) but your corgi is sooo cute! Must be hard to ‘shame’ a face like that! ;)

IQ – I think that’s just the flash reflecting on his nose! : ) Don’t worry, I’m not mad at him. He’s a good boy just very awkward.

Cindi – Ugh! We have the same problem. Corgis shed a whole dog everyday. I keep a tweezer in my mani kit for exactly that purpose!

Pam – LOL! Dogs are the best.

Heidi – That’s exactly how I feel! The torment is worth it for the unconditional love.

Mira – LOL! Share the link when you have it up!

Deborah – I always wonder about that – why do they want to be on us when we’re around noxious fumes lol.

Angie – Um… that’s just about the cutest thing I’ve ever heard. You’re cat sounds awesome lol. : )

Coco – Awwwwww I love Chihuahuas! My pup that passed away two years ago was half Chihuahua and half yorkie. Best dog ever, I still miss her. : (

Rach – Haha I’m so glad you taught me that work that’s exactly what Roy is, a derpy derp.

Sarah – How old is your Corgi? I keep telling my husband that he spoiled Roy as a puppy with his constant love lol! I wonder if he’ll grow out of it too.

Patricia – : )! It’s good to be back! Thank you for sticking with me after all this. <3

That sucks! One time I was painting my nails at my desk when my dog decided that she wanted to be on my lap. I had my polish, Call me Gwen-Ever, open on the keyboard tray and they dog knocked the try and ended up spilling the polish on my carpet :’(.
